AN APP FOR
FairBuy introduces the concept of fashion offsetting to achieve fair wages in the production of lifestyle articles (such as fashion items).
In a few, easy steps the users can offset/FairBuy their products by donating 50 ct per item to initiatives for the garment workers and turning these donations into statements for fairer wages.
INTRODUCING FASHION OFFSETTING
FairBuy is a smartphone application (app) for fashion offsetting (or rather for the offsetting of production conditions of lifestyle products).
Fashion offsetting is a concept to improve workers' conditions immediately but also to introduce long-term change in the industry.
50 ct: They represent the average price increase for lifestyle products (such as fashion items) if living wages were paid. With FairBuy, you can donate 50 ct for every lifestyle item purchase. They are forwarded untouched to projects for the (garment) workers.
THE BRANDS' STATEMENTS/PLEDGES
The brands cannot simply set higher wages because of the long and complex supply chain.
But they can pledge their commitment to pay higher wages.
This strengthens unions in collective bargaining processes - or enables governments to raise the minimum wages (without having to fear the brands would move on to even cheaper countries in that case).
Some brands have tested this approach in Cambodia last year. They have made an official pledge for fair negotiations and higher wages preceding the wage negotiations. The minimum wage was raised by 28% and lies now above the poverty line.
This is just the start.
(meaning the whole lifestyle products industry)
Our goal is to encourage more brands to join these pledges and to extend them to other countries.
This is what your statements do.
We can't make any item FairTrade - but we sure can FairBuy it. Let's fix the fashion industry. Together.
Item by item, statement by statement. Every time we shop.
Whatever our styles, wherever we buy - we do care.
OVERVIEW ABOUT THE IMPACT OF EACH STEP
AN APP FOR FAIR WAGES
We may not want - or be able - to spend a fortune on fashion (or lifestyle) products, but we DO CARE about the workers' wellbeing and ARE WILLING to bear the costs for the payment of living wages-
these are on average 50 cents per item.
